Road Safety

Road Safety Training - Simon and Friends
I use the 'Simon and Friends' stories and resources developed by the Road Safety Authority.

I find them very good and even two-year-olds have no problem getting the message from Simon, Josie, Charlie, Sara, and Sofia.

Simon teaches us that we must always hold hands.

Josie brings home the message that we must stop at the kerb.

Charlie and his brothers Ben and Jack demonstrate how to always set a good example.

Sara and Sofia show us how to look and listen for traffic.

The basic message is: you must always stop at the kerb, look, listen, and think to make sure there is no traffic before you cross the road holding someone's hand.
Safe Cross Code
For the over 4s I also use the Safe Cross Code

For this we use various resources from the RSA website.

We sing the song that includes the following steps:
1 Look for a safe place!
2 Don't hurry, stop and wait!
3 Look all around and listen before you cross the road!
4 Let all the traffic pass you!
5 Then walking straight across,
6 You keep watching!

We colour the Safe Cross Code pictures.

We play the Safe Cross Code online game.
