Recall Time
Recall Time is the third and last part of Plan-Do-Review. It takes place after tidy up time. Recall time usually takes about 15 minutes depending on the age(s) of the child(ren).
During recall time we all sit down together and recall what the child(ren) played with. With pre-verbal children I do most of the talking saying things like', You played with the blocks today. You put them all in a line.' etc.
This is very important to encourage reflective skills in children. It teaches them to sort their memories and thoughts into a meaningful order and to express them verbally. This is a valuable life skill and will also help them when they start school. Moreover, it often gives them new ideas for play for the next day. They come up with things like', I will play with the blocks again at the next work time, and I will try out this and that.'
Besides, again they feel valued when their work is deemed worth to be remembered and recapped, which is very good for their development of self-esteem.
