Music and Movement Time

Music and movement time is usually done as a small group activity, i.e. adult initiated.

I strongly believe in the value of early music education for children.

While sticking with the High Sccope principles, I do all the usual childrens' songs and nursery rhymes with them.

I also use the Singing Rascals books and tapes from the Colourstrings programme because I think it is an excellent programme for early music education. We start with two-key songs and I use the hand movements for the tones and diagrams of them are up on the wall in the music and movement area.

During music and movement time children get to play a range of instruments and move their bodies to the rhythm of the music. They also learn about tempo, beat, etc.
